Cool Looking for BT-4 Ironhorse [or possibly any BT-4]

Hey everyone, I'm looking into buying a BT-4 Ironhorse (hence the title). I've heard the BTs are very tough and about the same caliber as Tippmans. The heavy build is huge for me 'cuz I'm kind of a divy, jumpy, drop into a bush then sprint myself into a tree for cover kind of player, and I need something I'm not afraid to break. At the same time I'm a bit of a marksman so the Apex is right up my alley.

I could use any advice towards this gun or BT in general.

As for other BTs, post the base model and any upgrades included. Detailed pics requested. Tanks, vests, etc. included is a plus.

BT Delta Elite Paintball Gun

Good gun, looks awesome, already has an Apex, rip clip, and electronic trigger. Good buy in my opinion. It's a little pricey, but I don't think you'll be disappointed, honestly.

EDIT: Also, if your wanting milsim, and you're not wanting to spend $400 bucks, look at this: BT Designs BT-4 Assault Paintball Gun - Black

Not worth $400

If you want something like that, look for it used so you get a better price, otherwise look into older model PM's and DM's, Quests, etc

Ya, I'm definitely going used for this. Preferably no dings. I'll obviously pay less if there are cosmetic scratches, but that's not a deal breaker for me.

Is that just a gravity feeder? And he says it's an "air" tank, but I suspect it's just CO2. Thanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate it. I'll watch that one and open some conversation with the seller. If anyone else has anything they're looking to sell that can meet my needs, please continue posting.

Yes it's CO2. Yes that's just a gravity fed hopper, but you can get a BT Rip Clip, which is an electric fed hopper. New they're about $70. I have one on my 98 and I love it.

Here's a link: BT BT-4 Rip Clip Electronic at ActionVillage.com : Paintball

Oh, great. If you have one maybe you can give me some advice on it. Is the offset on the ripclip significant enough to clear the path for an in-line scope, or will I still have to angle the scope to the side?

No, it's offset plenty. I have a red-dot scope on mine and it works just fine. Now, if you do get a rip-clip, invest 6 or 8 bucks and get an X7 Low Profile Hopper. It's about half as tall as the hopper than comes with it. Gives it a lower profile.

For that kind of money I'd rather get a SP SP1 and trick it out
Don't get the BT, no blowback style marker is worth more than $200

Well everything I've seen for the Ironhorse ends up selling around $225 with tank and hopper included, so considering it has the Apex (you should see this video btw... YouTube - Apex Barrel Test/Tutorial - BEST ONE!!!... real good test video of it) 225-250 doesn't seem bad to me. Besides, I know I would use the bipod with my play style, and the gun just looks intimidating as all hell.

Look at the barrel section for the BackSpin Barrel Explination
Apex's and Flatlines are, IMO, terrible, you're accuracy is always bad at best compared to a nice single piece

and as always, function over form
I will never buy a sexy looking gun if it shoots like crap

I will always buy an ugly as sin gun if it is consistant, light, small, efficient, and feels good while shooting

Do these shoot inconsistently? I've never read/heard anything negative about them other than their weight (which I prefer).

1. The Magnus imparted on the paintball will very depending on the location of the seam on the paintball, so you will get different amounts of lift each time you shoot, so some paintballs will dip down, some will go straight, and some will go much higher then you'd like

Also, by putting spin on the ball, if it comes in contact with anything (a cross breeze, debris, etc.) and knocks the spin off axis, you'r shots will swing in wild directions

2. No matter what you say, playing is always more fun with a lighter setup

I'd rather have a small light paintball gun in a 24hr scenario then lugging around a 10 pound monster all day that just looks cool

Oh, I completely understand where you're coming from. Personally, I don't think there are any rights or wrongs in this. I'm a descent sized guy so the weight doesn't really bother me, and in fact I tend to enjoy pushing my limits. If I'm tired at the end of the day I feel accomplished. The Mil-Sim aspect gets me into the mentality, and the durability is an absolute must.

Understand, I am in know way challenging your play style, I just have a general idea of what will fit mine and am trying to buy accordingly. Although they may not fully apply, I certainly appreciate your input.

If you're ever going to play at Badlandz in Crete IL, or the Fort Knox paintball field in IN, send me a mssg. I'd be happy to meet you.

While I agree with azn's statement of "buy an ugly as sin gun if it is consistant, light, small, efficient, and feels good while shooting" I honestly think the BT-4 is a good gun. I don't think you'd be disappointed with it if you bought it. Now, to your "I'm a descent sized guy so the weight doesn't really bother me, and in fact I tend to enjoy pushing my limits. If I'm tired at the end of the day I feel accomplished. The Mil-Sim aspect gets me into the mentality, and the durability is an absolute must." I agree with. I love Mil-sim and pushing my limits. That's how I play. But it's all about what the player wants. Opinion giver #1 may say go with Gun A, and Opinion Giver #2 may say go with gun B. But if neither gun suits your playing style, try and find one that does. Which in your case, is the BT-4.

Also, I'm not saying that the BT-4 Ironhorse is a bad gun, it's just severely overpriced

Find one uder $200 and you'll have a great shooting gun, but for the money there are better milsim guns out there
(SmartParts SP1 is a GREAT one for about a quarter of the price)

And in all reality, you will be pushing yourself to the limit even without the heft of a beefy gun like the Ironhorse

Smart Parts SP1: Smart Parts SP1 Paintball Gun - Lowest price available from HustlePaintball.com

BT-4 Ironhorse: BT Paintball BT-4 Ironhorse Paintball Guns and other paintball guns and equipment at DirectPaintball.com

Around $26 difference. I'm not downplaying the SP1, at all. The ironhorse comes with an Apex barrel, Sightrail, Bi-pod, and CAR stock. For the money, I think the BT starter pack is a better deal than the SP1. Just because I don't think you could put all those things on the SP1, and spend about $204. You'd probably spend around $300 to put all that on the SP1. I'm sure the SP1 is a great gun, I'm just looking at it from a price standpoint.

-the APEX barrel is a gimmick from all I've heard. sure they shoot well, but so does any other barrel.
-A bipod is just worthless. there's no need ot ever have to use it to prop your paintball marker on it.
-A stock is also a waste of money as far as I'm concerned. All it does is replace your tank as a stock(whihc you use a tank for anyhow) and makes you have to buy a harness for your tank and a remote line.
-Scopes/sites don't do anything; paintballs do not fly straight..period.

All these things also add extra weight, whihc is very annoying.

If you're doing it all for looks, by all means go for it, but if you're looking for practical use.. I suggest looking elsewhere.

Red face

Not to be a stickler, but this has turned less into a WTB ad and more of a debate on what's the better gun. I appreciate the input/advice, but I AM trying to find something specific. Again, sorry; hope I don't step on any toes with this.

You should check out the video I posted earlier for the Apex []YouTube - Apex Barrel Test/Tutorial - BEST ONE!!! it seems to have a genuine effect, and with practice I could see real use for it.
Also, the stock and bipod increase accuracy (for me) in standing and prone positions respectively, making the use of a scope more relevant. All these things are completely based on play style. If you're a more up close and personal player obviously none of these things apply. In fact you have no business looking at as long of a gun as the Ironhorse as it would be HORRIBLE around corners. This is why I'll be using a secondary gun for up close fighting (don't worry, just a Spyder... I'm not trying to bankrupt myself ). If something isn't your style, don't rip on it cuz you never know, maybe I'll use my bipod, scope, Apex setup to beam you while you're in a bunker someday .

Good painting everyone. [BTW I'm still looking for an Ironhorse. If anyone's selling one plz post]

BT-4 IRONHORSE BY PAINTBALL DESIGNS PAINTBALL MARKER - eBay (item 290341863866 end time Aug-25-09 12:49:49 PDT)

Here's one I came across. Looks to be in pretty good condition, and it has an aftermarket hopper. If you get a Rip-Clip, it won't matter. But hey, you can use it for your spyder or something.

No problem. That's what I'm here for. I've found alot of cheap BT-4's, but they're just plain BT-4's. Do you want me to point you in the direction of those? Or just the "Ironhorse"?
